The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley presents a unique blend of academic rigor, diverse student life, and a community-focused atmosphere. Whether you're a prospective student or a parent, here's a look at what makes stood out at my recent tour.

Campus Life and Housing Options

UNC's campus life is vibrant and inclusive, offering a range of activities and clubs to suit all interests. The housing options are particularly impressive, with a wide variety of housing options including two pet-friendly dorms.  Students have several options for the style of housing they would like to live in as well as the location around campus.  The options included shared rooms and suite-style living.   It is possible to walk across campus in about twenty minutes making everything easily accessible.

Academic Strengths

While UNC boasts strong programs across various disciplines, it is particularly renowned for its Nursing and Education departments. These programs offer a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for their careers. Additionally, UNC offers a range of other programs, including business, performing arts, and environmental sciences, all supported by experienced faculty and excellent facilities.

UNC also offers very generous merit aid scholarships to students. Make sure to check out their website for the current amounts.

Small Class Sizes and Student Support

One of UNC's key advantages is its emphasis on small class sizes, which fosters a more personalized and engaging learning experience. Students benefit from closer interactions with professors and a supportive academic environment. This approach is particularly beneficial in complex fields of study, as it allows for more in-depth discussions and individualized support.

Athletics and School Spirit

UNC is home to the Bears, competing in Division 1 sports. The students cheer on their team, especially basketball and football, bringing together the community and fostering a strong sense of school spirit. Athletic events are not just about the games but are a celebration of the university's community, bringing students, faculty, and alumni together.

I recently had the opportunity to explore the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY, and let me tell you, it was an experience worth sharing. Whether you're a teen dreaming about your college journey or a parent guiding your child, there's something truly special about this university that resonates with the spirit of adventure and hands-on learning.

Small Town, Big Opportunities

Nestled in the small town of Laramie, just a two-hour drive from Denver, the University of Wyoming offers a vibrant campus life in a close-knit community setting. With an undergraduate enrollment of about 8,500 students, it's a place where you can enjoy the perks of a larger university without getting lost in the crowd. Interestingly, only about 59% of these students are from Wyoming, making it a melting pot of diverse experiences and perspectives.

A Haven for Outdoor Enthusiasts

For those of you who breathe in the outdoors and exhale adventure, UW is a dream come true. Recognized as one of the top schools for outdoor programs, it’s the perfect base camp for exploring the majestic landscapes of Wyoming. Whether it's hiking, mountain biking, skiing, or wildlife watching, the university embraces the natural playground it's surrounded by.

At UW, education is not just about textbooks and lectures; it's a hands-on journey. This museum is home to an extensive collection of minerals, gemstones, and fossils, including a 75-foot Apatosaurus skeleton and a rare Allosaurus fossil. It's not just a museum; it's a portal to the past, offering students and visitors alike a glimpse into the earth's geological history and the evolution of life on our planet.

Adding to the traditions on campus is Rex.  An impressive T-Rex statue guards the entrance to the building, but also serves as a good luck charm to the students during finals season.

Big Merit Aid and School Spirit

On the financial side, UW stands out for its generous merit aid, making higher education more accessible and less burdensome. And for the sports enthusiasts among us, the university's Division 1 football team brings an electrifying spirit to the campus. There’s nothing quite like the roar of a crowd cheering on the Cowboys to make you feel part of something bigger.
